Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge on Sunday addressed the ongoing SIR row involving Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar in Bengaluru. He accused the BJP of regularly insulting and taking control of constitutional institutions and raised specific questions about the need for judicial immunity for the CEC while seeking answers from Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
Speaking to the media, Kharge stated that insulting and hijacking constitutional institutions was becoming a habit of the BJP. He posed a direct question on why the Chief Election Commissioner required judicial immunity and called on Shivraj Singh Chouhan to provide the first response to that query.
Kharge further asked for the definition of logical discrepancy and demanded that the other side offer clarity on the matter. His remarks focused solely on the SIR row and the position of CEC Gyanesh Kumar without elaborating further details in the available statement.
The comments come amid political exchanges linked to the Election Commission and related issues in Karnataka. The minister’s questions place the onus on BJP leaders to respond on the points of immunity and discrepancy as framed by him.
