Tejashwi Yadav Demands CEC Exit, Plans Protests

Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Yadav on Saturday in Patna, Bihar, pressed for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and outlined a series of steps his side will take in response to what he described as serious wrongdoing by the Election Commission.

Yadav said his group had finalised a full action plan during a meeting. He announced that all Members of Parliament would hold a protest on October 6. Following the demonstration, they intended to meet the President. In addition, rallies would be held at multiple locations, and the opposition leaders planned to join those events.

He characterised the actions of the Election Commission and Gyanesh Kumar as more than an ordinary error, calling them a grave offence that must bring consequences. Yadav added that those shielding the Commissioner, the people who placed him in the post, and anyone who directed him to take the disputed steps would also face accountability.

The remarks came as the opposition continued to challenge the Election Commission’s recent decisions. Yadav’s statement signalled a coordinated push involving parliamentary protests, a formal approach to the highest constitutional authority, and public gatherings across different places to keep pressure on the issue.

The planned sequence of events beginning October 6 is expected to keep the demand for the Chief Election Commissioner’s removal in public focus in the coming days.
