Nvidia Plans RTX 5080 Upgrade With 24GB VRAM Amid 5090 Rumors

Nvidia is reportedly preparing an upgraded version of its RTX 5080 graphics card featuring 24GB of VRAM, according to a recent leak, as reports also suggest the company may discontinue the flagship RTX 5090 to allocate its high-end GB202 GPUs to the data center-focused RTX Pro series. The information comes from a Benchlife report shared over the weekend and covered in updates as of October 13, 2026.

The existing RTX 5080 model includes 16GB of GDDR7 VRAM. The planned variant would increase that capacity to 24GB. It remains unclear whether Nvidia would fully phase out the 16GB version or simply limit its production to prioritize the higher-memory model.

Add-in card partners have not yet received formal development materials for the new card. They have only been told verbally that relevant information will arrive soon. Benchlife indicates Nvidia aims to introduce the upgraded RTX 5080 in the first quarter of 2027.

The RTX 5090 currently offers 32GB of GDDR7 VRAM, more than any other gaming GPU available. Its original manufacturer suggested retail price stood at $1,999 when it launched in January 2025, though recent sales have exceeded $5,000. Ending production of the card could lead to further price rises as remaining stock becomes limited and resellers adjust listings accordingly.

If the 24GB RTX 5080 proceeds, it would give enthusiasts an additional high-end option. Details on its pricing and exact branding remain unknown, with the possibility it could appear under a name such as RTX 5080 Super once partners receive further information.
