Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian meeting Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Tehran

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian met Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Tehran on Monday and said Iran has no fundamental differences with regional countries. He stated Iran is ready to resolve existing issues through dialogue. The two sides also discussed strengthening bilateral ties between Tehran and Moscow.

Pezeshkian said Iran and Russia can use their shared potential and regional and international mechanisms to support peace, sustainable security, and a multilateral order. He referred to his recent contacts with Russian President Vladimir Putin and noted that consultations continue on bilateral understandings, implementation plans, and expanding joint cooperation. He expressed hope that an upcoming visit to Moscow would advance these agreements and produce practical results.

The Iranian president thanked Russia for its stance and support during the recent war. He stressed the need for continued mutual support and stronger political and diplomatic cooperation in line with shared interests. Pezeshkian pointed to Iran’s historical, cultural, and ideological ties with regional countries and called for stronger neighborliness diplomacy and constructive interactions among Islamic countries.

He said Iran has always sought to develop relations based on engagement, brotherhood, and cooperation. According to Pezeshkian, differences in the region stem from US divisive interventions and policies. He added that US military bases in regional countries have increased tensions, differences, instability, and insecurity rather than bringing benefits. Iran welcomes joint initiatives with regional countries on peace, security, economic development, cultural and scientific cooperation, and people-to-people ties, believing sustainable security must rest on mutual trust, regional participation, and respect for legitimate interests.
