Congress MLA M.C. Sudhakar on Sunday responded in Bengaluru to the BJP’s call for the Director General and Inspector General of Police to halt cases against its leaders in the Special Intensive Revision row. He stated that senior Congress figures had lodged formal complaints with the Election Commission backed by documentary evidence, leading to an inquiry and FIRs.
Sudhakar said the Chief Minister, the party president and the former Chief Minister had all submitted the complaints. He added that the Election Commission would not have ordered the inquiry and FIRs without sufficient grounds. According to him, it was evident that attempts had been made to manipulate the Special Intensive Revision process.
He further remarked that if the BJP now sought to protect those who had misused the procedure, the party’s position stood exposed. Sudhakar credited his party leaders with taking a sound decision that persuaded the Election Commission of India. He noted that the Chief Electoral Officer in Karnataka could not have issued the order without the Commission’s consent.
The remarks come amid the ongoing dispute over the Special Intensive Revision exercise in Karnataka. The MLA’s comments underscore the Congress view that the complaints and subsequent official actions rest on evidence presented to the Election Commission, while the BJP has urged police authorities to stop further cases against its leaders.
