OPPO has launched ColorOS 17, its newest mobile operating system, on October 13 in Shenzhen. The update focuses on greater smoothness and system-level AI features. It will first appear on the upcoming Find X10 Series and then roll out to more OPPO devices for users around the world.

ColorOS 17 introduces Living Flow Design to make interactions feel more natural and responsive. This design rests on three elements: Luminous Effect for softer translucent visuals, Fluid Motion for seamless transitions between interface states, and Flexible Feedback that lets buttons and toolbars compress and rebound on touch. A Unified Rendering Architecture, based on an updated Luminous Rendering Engine, supports these changes. It reduces rendering loads by up to 30 percent and RAM use for rendering by up to 25 percent compared with the previous version.

The system also gains the Laminar Flow Engine for better resource management. This upgrade improves app launch stability by 55 percent and speeds Gallery thumbnail loading by up to 50 percent on first launch versus ColorOS 16. It can keep more than 25 percent additional apps running in the background during multitasking. Tests that simulate six years of use show the software keeps over 90 percent of its original smoothness even when storage reaches 90 percent capacity.

On the AI side, ColorOS 17 expands tools that handle complex tasks. AI Mind Pilot adds an Agent Mode that works with on-device photos and files, organizes content, and creates outputs such as itineraries. AI Photo Agent allows style matching from a reference image or natural-language edits while preserving the original scene. Upgrades to AI Mind Space turn saved documents and video links into searchable memories, while AI Mind Suggest delivers timely information and OSee combines visual recognition services behind a single camera press.

Privacy remains central. The Private Computing Cloud now includes post-quantum security for data transmission. A new Transparency Report lets users see which AI services accessed their data, and AI Call Guard uses on-device detection to flag potential fraud risks during calls.
