IRGC Navy Reports Tanker Hits Mine in Strait of Hormuz

The Public Relations of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy stated that a rogue super tanker struck a naval mine this afternoon in the southern area of the Strait of Hormuz, triggering an explosion and fire in the vessel’s engine room. The ship, which was carrying crude oil and preparing to exit the strait, had disabled all its navigation systems, breached the strait’s rules, and followed an unauthorized route, according to the statement.

The IRGC Navy described the incident as the third such case involving a rogue tanker since yesterday. Each of these vessels hit naval mines while traveling along the unauthorized route in the Strait of Hormuz and subsequently caught fire.

Officials said the tanker involved in the latest event had turned off its navigation systems entirely before the explosion occurred. The statement linked the accident directly to the decision to sail through the prohibited path after shutting down identification equipment.

In the same announcement, the IRGC Navy declared that any ships in the Strait of Hormuz that switch off their navigation and identification systems will be treated as hostile. The navy indicated that such vessels will face severe and decisive action.

The report focuses on the sequence of events affecting oil-carrying tankers that deviate from authorized routes and disable tracking systems in the strategic waterway.
