Saudi air defenses intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile launched by Yemen’s Houthi militia toward Khamis Mushayt in southern Saudi Arabia, the Saudi-led Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen said. Coalition spokesman Maj. Gen. Turki Al-Maliki announced the successful interception in a statement, noting the missile was stopped before it could reach its target in the Asir region city.

The incident forms part of a series of recent cross-border attacks by the Houthis on Saudi territory. Fresh alerts were issued in the Asir region following repeated strikes that also targeted airports in Riyadh and Dammam. The Houthis have claimed responsibility for those airport attacks.

Al-Maliki’s statement confirmed the destruction of the ballistic missile directed at Khamis Mushayt. No additional details on any resulting damage or casualties from this specific interception were provided in the available reports.

Khamis Mushayt, located near the Yemeni border, has faced multiple such threats amid the ongoing regional tensions. The successful interception underscores the continued operation of Saudi air defense systems in response to the launches from Yemen. Residents in affected areas have been subject to alerts as authorities monitor the situation.
