Mumbai City FC lost 2-1 to Churchill Brothers SC in their first match of the MG Indian Super League 2026-27 season on 11 October 2026 at the Fatorda Stadium. Debutants Churchill Brothers scored both their goals in the second half before Mumbai City converted a late penalty.

Mumbai City controlled possession in the early stages. In the ninth minute, Wilmar Jordan provided a cross for Brandon Fernandes, whose right-footed shot was blocked by Churchill Brothers goalkeeper Sayad Kadir. The first half ended without any goals.

Churchill Brothers took the lead in the 57th minute. From a short corner, Anil Gaonkar crossed the ball to Gaurav Bora, who headed it into the net for the team’s first goal in the MG ISL. The hosts extended their advantage in the 87th minute when substitute Stendley Fernandes set up Sebastian Gutierrez, who scored from inside the box.

In stoppage time, Mumbai City received a penalty after Akash Mishra was fouled in the area. Sergio Llamas scored from the spot to make it 2-1, but the goal came too late to change the result. Churchill Brothers held on for the victory.
