Afenifere, the leading pan-Yoruba socio-political group, has formally announced the consolidation of its collective leadership under Kabiyesi Oba Oladipo Olaitan. The move, declared on 24 October 2026, pays tribute to the late Pa Reuben Fasoranti and aims to strengthen unity while advancing Yoruba interests in Nigeria.
In a statement signed by National Publicity Secretary Prince Justice Faloye and Secretary General Alade Rotimi-John, the organisation said the modern history of the Yoruba people and Nigeria’s political development carry the lasting influence of Pa Reuben Fasoranti. It described him as a patriarch who upheld Afenifere’s principles with steady resolve, following the path of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Chief Adekunle Ajasin and Senator Abraham Adesanya. Through periods of national uncertainty he served as a moral guide and consistent voice for true federalism, equity, fairness and the progress of his people.
The statement noted that the leadership mantle now rests with Kabiyesi Oladipo Olaitan. It said he has shown clear purpose and the ability to advance Afenifere’s core goals while supporting wider Nigerian unity. His record, according to the group, shows understanding of the balance between regional advocacy and national cohesion.
Afenifere issued a call to all factions, political actors and younger generations among the Yoruba people to end division. It stated that the survival, stability and prosperity of the Yoruba nation depend on full pan-Yoruba unity. The organisation urged all sons and daughters of Omo kaaro oojiire to close ranks, reject bitterness and hatred, and stand firmly behind Oba Oladipo Olaitan.
Oba Olaitan is charged to lead with clear purpose and dignity. As a traditional ruler he brings restraint, wisdom and statesmanship. The group said he regards the role as a trust held for the protection of Yoruba institutions and people, remaining free from short-term political pressures. Under this unified leadership Afenifere reaffirmed its commitment to Nigeria’s stability and the pursuit of a just, equitable and restructured country.
