An attack struck King Khalid International Airport in the Saudi capital Riyadh on Saturday, leaving several people injured and forcing a temporary suspension of airport operations, according to Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation.

The authority stated that the incident took place against a backdrop of ongoing attacks directed at civil aviation facilities across the kingdom. Officials said they were still working to establish the precise number of those hurt. Airport activities were halted while teams conducted damage assessments and safety inspections, with additional information to be released later.

An explosion was reported at Terminal 3 during the afternoon, and smoke rose briefly near the terminal. Witnesses described people being evacuated from the airport in the immediate aftermath.

Yemen’s Houthi group has carried out repeated attacks on the same airport in recent days. The latest incident occurred during a period of heightened conflict in Yemen, where forces supported by Saudi Arabia are engaged in fighting against the Houthis.

The temporary closure and injuries have disrupted normal activity at one of the country’s main international airports, affecting passengers and staff present at the time while authorities continue their response and evaluation efforts.
