NCP (SP) spokesperson Anish Gawande spoke in Mumbai, Maharashtra, about the INDIA bloc’s march. He addressed allegations against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the opposition’s ongoing protests. Gawande explained the group’s position that the Commissioner should resign or face continuous demonstrations, which he said are already happening each day.
Gawande stated that the opposition had made its demand clear from the beginning when the allegations first arose. He noted that protests continue on a daily basis as a result. According to him, more than three hundred opposition MPs went onto the streets today and tried to reach the Election Commission of India but were stopped.
He questioned the response of authorities. Gawande asked what the opposition should do if the government does not listen to the voice of the youth or the opposition, and if the Election Commission of India does not listen to the voices of its own two Election Commissioners. He linked the situation to concerns over voting rights and the Constitution.
Gawande said that if the right to vote is being snatched away and if the Constitution is being tampered with, then the opposition must unite and raise its voice. His remarks focused on the need for collective action by the INDIA bloc in response to the issues raised around the Chief Election Commissioner and the Commission.
The comments came as part of the opposition’s public actions connected to the Election Commission. Gawande’s statement outlined the reasons for the protests and the call for unity among opposition members.
